About

Of all the Buddha's teachings, perhaps his greatest gift can be found in the bodhisattva ideal, a template for living in the world as an "awakener," a peacemaking spiritual warrior serving the highest good.

With his previous bestsellers including Awakening the Buddha Within, American-born Tibetan-Buddhist teacher Lama Surya Das has made the helpful, healing insights of the Buddha accessible to millions. Now, with Buddha Is As Buddha Does: The Ten Original Practices for Enlightened Living, he offers a four-CD session based on his book of the same title to invite you to be and become a bodhisattva.

Join him to explore:

• How to cultivate bodhicitta, the "spirit-engine" of enlightenment that allows us to embody and actively practice the Buddha's teachings in the real world

• How to actively practice the ten paramitas (transcendental virtues) in daily life-generosity, ethics, patience, energetic effort, meditation, wisdom, skillful means, higher aspiration, powers, and pristine awareness

• Inspirational lessons from Lama Surya Das's personal teachers, including The Dalai Lama-plus contemporary examples of enlightened action based on the realization of the oneness of life.

"As long as there is suffering in the world, there is spiritual work to do," explains Lama Surya Das. "We are the bodhisattvas, the future Buddhas of this world." Join this lucid guide to experience the sacred wisdom of he Buddha's greatest lessons, with Buddha Is As Buddha Does.
Lama Surya Das

Lama Surya Das is one of the most highly-trained American-born lamas in the Tibetan Dzögchen tradition and has been leading retreats since 1989. For nearly 50 years, he has studied with the great spiritual masters of Tibet, India, and Asia. Born Jeffrey Allen Miller, he left home for college in the 1960s; went to Woodstock; marched in anti-war rallies in Washington; graduated Phi Beta Kappa from SUNY, Buffalo; then went to India and Asia on a spiritual quest.

Surya Das is the founder of the Dzögchen Foundation and the author of many books, including bestsellers such as Awakening the Buddha Within and Awakening to the Sacred. He is also the founder of the Western Buddhist Teachers Conference with the Dalai Lama, who affectionately calls him "the American Lama." He lives in Lexington, MA. For more, see surya.org.
