"The truly frightening Brothers Grimm story about an evil witch who devours children is made even more sinister as interpreted by Stephen King. This 30-minute audiobook, narrated by King himself, isn't a bedtime story for children, but rather a horror story for adults. King may not have the performing skills of an actor, but his earnest delivery makes up for it. His narration is like hearing a story told by an old friend. The original German fairy tale is a thing of horror about the abuse and abandonment of two children by their father and evil stepmother. It gets worse when they're captured by a witch who wants to murder and eat them. How this was ever considered a story suitable for children is beyond belief. M.S. AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine"
