About

The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, originally published in France in 1900, is one of Joseph Bédier's most important works. Bédier brings together various medieval Celtic sources and compiles them into one cohesive tale of chivalry and doomed, but transcendent love.

The story of Tristan, a Cornish knight, and Iseult, the Irish princess, is that of love and of death. Two people who meet by accident and deception, fall in love by magic, and chase that love, while also battling the loyalty and honor they have for those around them. Tristan is loyal to King Mark, his mother's brother. Iseult is King Mark's bride, won in a feat. Until one day at sea brings the two together, linked by fate forever.

This tale is one of the most famous love triangles in history.
