'All Ian Broudie's great gifts as a songwriter - melody, vulnerability, empathy, hope - turn out to be in his prose too. A lovely read' - DAVID BADDIEL
'Full of heart and sparkling melancholy' - THE I
Few musicians have lived a musical life as rich as the songwriter and producer Ian Broudie.
From recording the glorious uplifting psychedelic pop of his band the Lightning Seeds to producing bands like Echo & the Bunnymen and the Fall, Ian has journeyed from the energy and potential of the 1970s punk scene to the madness of '90s indie - and out the other side.
Throughout nearly fifty years of making music, he has had a front-row seat working with generations of fantastic musicians in the creation of countless groundbreaking records. In Tomorrow's Here Today, he reveals what he has learnt about creativity, how to work with musicians touched by genius and what it is like to stumble through an exploding industry without losing sight of your dreams.
Along the way, Ian shares how he wrote the million-selling album Jollification and how - along with the comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner - he wrote and recorded the only single in chart history to reach number one in the UK on four separate occasions. 'Three Lions' has since become the undisputed unofficial anthem of English football, soundtracking heartbreaking defeats as well as the wondrous victories of the Lionesses.
Following 2022's long-awaited Lightning Seeds comeback, Ian reflects on a life of cosmic adventures spent in thrall to the power of music. IAN BROUDIE originally emerged from the post-punk Liverpool music scene of the late '70s, playing in the band Big in Japan. Before the band ended, they created the indie label Zoo Records, which in turn led to Ian producing for an array of high-profile bands (sometimes credited with the pseudonym 'Kingbird').
Releasing his first record under the name 'Lightning Seeds' - the imaginary group he had envisioned when he wrote his songs in the hope it would become a reality - Ian went on to find considerable success as the band's frontman, culminating in the history-making 'Three Lions'.
Ian's studio is now located in Liverpool and he continues to write, record and produce material for the Lightning Seeds and as a soloist. The definitive autobiography of musician, singer-songwriter and producer Ian Broudie, chronicling his career as frontman of multi-platinum-selling rock band the Lightning Seeds, with tales of Britpop stardom and footballing royalty along the way. The enduring power of 'Three Lions' as an English football anthem is ever-present and will always reignite interest in the Lightning Seeds whenever England participate in international competition. Frontman for the multi-platinum-selling Lightning Seeds. In 2022, the Lightning Seeds released a new album, which saw them embark on their biggest tour in ten years across the UK late last year. Hardback is publishing in Q4 with the paperback to follow for the Euros in June 2024. Well connected in the music and entertainment industry with potential endorsements from the likes of Bill Drummond, Julian Cope, Holly Johnson, Ian McCulloch, Chris Evans, David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.
