We will also cover Sensory Processing Disorder, Irlen Syndrome, Pineal Gland Cysts, Chiari Malformation, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Migraines, Cow Protein Intolerances, and other conditions related to Alice In Wonderland Syndrome.What is Alice In Wonderland Syndrome?Alice In Wonderland Syndrome (also referred to as AIWS) is a psychological and neurological condition that causes visual and perceptual changes in objects and people that are around the person. The disorder is also known as Todd's Syndrome or Lilliputian hallucinations. Essentially, things that disturb the normal electrical impulses in the brain and the chemical balances in the brain can trigger migraines and correlating hallucinations or perceptual distortions. Multiple disorders, structural deformities, and imbalances can cause Lilliputian hallucinations and Alice In Wonderland Syndrome. We will discuss them. As a sufferer, I was overcome by Alice In Wonderland Syndrome while I was sitting in the school cafeteria one day. I was approximately 10 years old. I remember feeling scared and confused at what was occurring. I later realized that I had contracted Scarlet Fever and Mononucleosis back to back, which are just some of the triggers for Alice in Wonderland Syndrome.Just prior to the Alice In Wonderland Syndrome Attack, I remember experiencing eye pressure, halos around my vision, pressure in my head and eyes, and tension in my occipital nerves where my skull meets my neck in the back of my head.Migraines, neurological symptoms, hallucinations, perceptual distortions and more can be experienced literally at any age. The body and the brain are delicate environments with many chemicals and cells that must be in balance at all times.Hormones help to control these balances, but hormone changes can also bring on an Alice In Wonderland Syndrome attack. Other things that are responsible for Alice In Wonderland Syndrome hallucinations are: headache and migraines, prescription and street drugs, tumors, brain injury, sleep deprivation and insomnia, stress and anxiety, and electrical disturbances in the brain. A person with mononucleosis or infected with the Epstein-Barr virus can get the symptoms of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome.It is said that Alice in Wonderland Syndrome usually resolves by adulthood. It is common in childhood. Some children might not report to their parents that they have had it, as I did not report my symptoms to mine. I was a bit nervous that I was hallucinating, and thus it was an experience that made me feel somewhat too embarrassed to report to my parents or my teachers.I do not believe the statistics online that indicate that Alice In Wonderland Syndrome always resolves by adulthood. It makes sense to me that the perceptual hallucinations might take on a more imaginary form in childhood, and that they might be allowed to worsen more quickly without medication.By adulthood, most people have realized that they are having migraines and pressure/chemical changes in the brain, thus the awareness (in my opinion) might reduce the severity of the hallucinations. Additionally, most adults who are experiencing migraines learn to take medication when they are getting a migraine onset, whereas a child does not typically know to ask for medication in the aura and pressure states of an oncoming headache, and thus might experience worse symptoms that are ignored rather than treated.Further, an adult is allowed to sit down and rest when they have a migraine or a headache.
