About

Astra is a bunny with a magical paintbrush. She can cast spells---such as making things fly---if she draws the right things. But what should she draw? And how? She tries different lines, different shapes, different ways to hold the brush, more complicated drawings, and more. Will she discover how to cast the spell she needs to leave this dangerous planet, instead of accidentally setting everything on fire again? This is a bundle of 10 short stories (or "chapters"). If you read them all, in order, you get a bigger story. But each individual story is standalone and short, which allows reading just one of them before bedtime, for example. Most chapters have Astra try something new, or tackle a new problem, and discover a new fact about her magic. Each chapter also has an image at the start that introduces some new type of line or curve for readers to try. As such, the stories teach about pencil control. They encourage Apprentices to start creating their own drawings, copy what Astra is doing, maybe invent their own written "spells". All of this is great practice for fine motor skills and great preparation for handwriting later. Astra Buni is a recurring character in The Saga of Life and our magical interpretation of the Easter Bunny. Ever wondered how she ended up with her magical paintbrush? The one that's far too big for her and she can barely hold? Well, this book is a sort of "origin story" for Astra Buni, and part of the fun and educational books written for The Wayward Melody.
