About

The Indianapolis 500-mile race has been held since 1911. The only years since then in which it hasn't been contested were the 2 years because of World War I, and the 4 years because of World War II. In all of those years approximately 800 men and women have driven in the race. Each one has a story about their lives, or their racing adventure. Here are ten drivers who have an incredible story related to the race. Some have war stories to tell, some have stories of personal triumph and tragedy, and some have stories regarding the Indianapolis 500. The stories are true just as the people involved are true. If we learn and remember the stories, then they will not be forgotten. J Louis Frey is an author, publisher, and photographer. He has written numerous non-fiction books in auto racing history, and US history. Frey is a sports official and resides with his wife in Pennsylvania.
