"Kara is an African-American girl with a big smile. She eats a good breakfast, has an afternoon snack of apple slices and almonds, a small piece of cake with dinner, and a bedtime snack of yogurt and whole-wheat toast. Kara tries to eat right based on the food pyramid. Her dad makes a dinner of fish, potatoes, carrots, and broccoli, and Kara has a glass of milk. At a friend's house, Kara asks for water instead of soda. Two simple sentences appear per two-page spread. Framed notes within the pictures give further information, such as: "It is always best to drink water instead of soda. Make sure to drink plenty of water every day." The brightly-colored, cheerful ink-and-watercolor illustrations show Kara in normal childhood settings. This is part of the "How to be Healthy!" series. A list of other books, a web site address, and a short index are included."
