Rex Huermann, a 60-year-old architect from Long Island, has been charged with multiple murders connected to the Gilgo Beach serial killings. The investigation began in 2010 when police discovered the remains of several individuals near Gilgo Beach, New York. Many of the victims were young women working as sex workers. In July 2023, Heuermann was arrested in Manhattan and charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. In January 2024, he was charged with the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. In June 2024, he was arraigned and charged with the murders of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla.
