I had childhood liver cancer (hepatoblastoma) at 8 months and subsequent (possibly dangerous) chemotherapy. At the age of 10, I began having petit mal (absence) seizures, which were controlled with medication. At age 13, I began a horribly long road of seizures -although they were misdiagnosed as anxiety disorder and I was sent to many juvenile / youth psychologists and psychiatrists and was told I had pseudo-seizures and a phobia of open spaces which is similar to agoraphobia, but which I now know is a type of aura. My family and friends did not understand / misunderstood my problems of mental angst and terror and spasms and often thought I was attention seeking, being over-dramatic or lying. I practically lived in Saskatchewan's Royal University Hospital, where I was subjected to EEGs (electro encephalograms) , hospital mistreatment of sorts, neurological reflex tests, etc. I was always on tegredol or some other seizure med but they did little to nothing to ease my pain (seizure pills are often used for anxiety and vice versa).
