About

This book is a collection of four science fiction stories, set in different universes but with a common theme throughout; specifically, the fact that teamwork gets a lot more done than trying to go it alone. The first story, Martian Walker, is a relatively hard sci-fi look at a transhuman teenage girl on Mars and what happens when her world is shattered. Secondly, we have Bug Eyes, the story of a hapless tourist and amateur photographer who's caught up in a civil war on an alien planet, and his interactions with the bug-like locals. The third story, Hammer and Anvil, is from the point of view of a crewmember on an alien patrol vessel that encounters Earth and humanity in the course of its duties, and how he's part of the effort to save it when a looming menace is set to attack. And finally, Beware the Anger of a Quiet Man features Dallas, a taciturn sergeant and how it's a very bad idea to take away the person he loves.I had fun writing them all, and I hope you enjoy reading them. Alan Michael Atkinson is from Australia. He grew up on a remote North Queensland cattle property and attended boarding school for his higher education. Now living in town, he has been by turns a Chinese food delivery driver, a taxi driver and a security guard. He likes to read, and plays tabletop roleplaying games when he can. He's met both Felicia Day (Buffy, Dollhouse, Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle, Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), and has the photos to prove it.Welcome to Utopia is his first novel.
