Once upon a time, a very long time ago, a girl rode a silver dragon across the ocean to a far-off land. She came bearing beautiful trinkets and treasures, but during her journey was set upon by thieves and bandits. Waiting for help to reclaim her treasure, she found none came and so set off to avenge herself... Or maybe it wasn't that long ago and perhaps she was a grown woman? And perhaps she didn't ride a dragon, but an airplane? And perhaps she just had to suck it up and accept that she was silly and naïve, and it was her own damn fault she had been robbed? Maybe it happened like that, maybe it did not... A young woman travels to Turkey to translate a collection of folklore and immerse herself in the legends and fables of the Turkish people, while escaping the pressures of her life back in Canada. What is supposed to be an uneventful academic expedition immediately turns into an adventure rife with bandits, thieves, mysterious creatures, and tales of undiscovered treasure. Eventually becoming a heroine of folkloric proportions herself, she finds the stories she collects bleeding into her life in surprising ways. Discovering herself in the emerging legends of her new adventure, she leaves the many damaging beliefs and painful stories of the old one behind. But it is only after carefully peeling back the layers of her previous life, and finding the truth can't always be stripped bare, that she can forge ahead as master of her own tale.
