About

Hope White has always believed her life has a clear purpose.

As one of a preacher's daughters, she is known for her generous heart, strong faith, and desire to serve others. Her plans are taking her west, where she hopes to begin missionary work in California and dedicate her future to helping those in need.

Clay Adams wants nothing to do with the kind of life Hope represents.

Raised by a harsh and deeply critical preacher grandfather, Clay learned to associate faith with judgment rather than grace. All he has ever wanted is freedom, adventure, and the chance to live on his own terms.

But his first taste of freedom leads him into dangerous company.

Desperate to escape the men he has become involved with, Clay flees toward California. His journey nearly ends on the desert floor when illness overtakes him and leaves him close to death.

Hope and her father find Clay and stop to help.

When marks on his chest suggest typhoid fever, the wagon master insists they keep their distance from the rest of the train. While her father drives the wagon, Hope tends to the dangerously ill stranger. As Clay slowly regains consciousness, the two begin to talk.

The more they learn about one another, the more convinced they become that they could not be more wrong for each other.

Hope sees a man whose choices and secrets threaten everything she values. Clay sees a woman of faith who reminds him far too much of the judgment he has spent his life trying to escape.

Then the mountains reveal more of Clay's past.

When Hope discovers truths he has kept hidden, her fragile trust is shattered. But after her family's wagon breaks an axle, leaving Hope and her father vulnerable, the one man she no longer believes she can trust may be their only hope of rescue.

Can Clay prove that his past does not have to define the man he is becoming?

And can Hope find the courage to trust not only Clay, but her own heart-and the God she believes offers redemption to everyone?
