Thora was born illegally...enhanced women are simply too powerful for the Tribes to control, and the only place she belongs is within the all-male priesthood of the Seers. Auric was born by perfectly legal means within the corporate government of SAB, into a life where those around him struggle against one another to hold his reins.
While the Shining Wars drove the Tribes of humanity underground, SAB took to the poles of the Earth and the farthest reaches of the Orion Spur. 6,000 years in the future, humanity hasn't changed all that much; and why should they?
