"Asian American" coined by activists Yuji Ichioka and Emma Gee in 1968 was a movement to build solidarity between the many AAPI ethnic groups struggling against racism and for their own civil rights. While not perfect in its current or past definitions, often centering East Asian Americans, the term itself symbolizes an important turning point in our history showcasing radical cross-racial solidarity.
