Trundle, a classic country town in Central Western NSW with a population of just 485 people has recently lost its footy team, racetrack, ambo service and bank. But the small community has come together with an ingeniously simple plan to save their town - they're offering city slickers Australia wide the chance to move to Trundle and rent abandoned Farmhouses for only $1 a week. Country Town Rescue follows the journey of this move, watching as new life is breathed into the town and documenting how the newcomers build lives and friendships in rural Australia.
The tree change scheme is launched, and the Trundle Tree-Change committee starts reviewing applicants from all over the world. They decide that Trundle's Christmas Fair will double as an open day for the short listed applicants.
Trundle welcomes Donna Roberts and family. The Elemams are coming to terms with life in the bush, including finding a water tank full of dead frogs while the Guerke family are having landlord and veranda troubles.
The Guerke's relationship with their landlord has deteriorated further and the committee meets to discuss a solution. The Gallen's arrive in town and Jo seeks a job at the local pub.
The Trundle families face some highs and lows. Baby news for the Gallens and a new home for the Guerke's. But after their son's asthma worsens, the Moore's face a tough decision - should they stay or should they go?
