Sal Vine, the village nurse, and her best friend, Tip, is the surgery's receptionist. Sal is the lynchpin of the village. But she cannot bring herself to join the guild. Knitting and cake-baking are simply not her scene. But when tragedy hits her it's enough to change her mind.

Clatterford Ladies Guild receives a visitor from the Main Wheel of the Guild, Lady Anne Crump, who has the power to shut them down. When they finally arrive for the meeting they have made no effort at all. Will the Guild be closed down and merged with the guild at nearby Hole?
