Journey to the West - Season 1

Tripitaka and Monkey arrive at the temple of Kwan Yin, where the evil chief monk, Kam Fong, borrows their precious robe. Kam Fong and his henchmen set fire to the temple, hoping to get rid of the two pilgrims and keep the robe forever. // Tripitaka and Monkey have escaped the fire in the temple of Kwan Yin, but their robe is gone. They suspect that the bear monster of Black Wind Mountain stole it, but he denies responsibility for the theft, so Monkey confronts Kam Fong in an attempt to recover the robe.

Having defeated Kam Fong and learned that the bear monster has the precious robe, Monkey returns to Black Wind Mountain. Monkey and Tripitaka are both captured by the monster and must use their wits to escape and get the robe. // Tripitaka and Monkey meet Lord Gao, whose household is troubled by a pig monster who comes to their home every night and raises an awful uproar. After being subdued, the monster joins Tripitaka and Monkey on their journey and becomes Pigsy, the third pilgrim.

As the three pilgrims are crossing a desert, the evil Stormrat uses his magical powers to capture Tripitaka. Monkey and Pigsy must work together to overcome Stormrat's irresistible whirlwind and rescue their companion. // Tripitaka, Monkey and Pigsy come to the Great Sandy River but have no way to get across until they subdue the monster who lives in the river. He joins them on the journey and Tripitaka names him Sandy, after the river in which he once lived.

The four pilgrims arrive at the temple of Long-Life Mountain, where Pigsy persuades Monkey to steal the fruit of the temple's mystical tree. Confronted with his crime by the temple's two assistant monks, Monkey uproots the tree and casts a sleep spell over his accusers. // Outraged by Monkey's attack on his mystical tree, the Immortal Sage of Long-Life Mountain captures all four pilgrims and holds them prisoner until Monkey promises to restore the tree. But Monkey discovers that he can't undo the damage he's done until Kwan Yin comes to his aid.

The four companions come to a village on the banks of the Misty Torrent River and learn that the villagers are being terrorized by the Iron Catfish. The Catfish soon makes Tripitaka his prisoner: Monkey, Sandy and Pigsy must work together to defeat him and free their friend. // Tripitaka and his companions arrive in the desolate Stone Valley, where the nasty Jade Witch has hatched a plot to capture Tripitaka. She puts on a succession of disguises, fooling all the pilgrims except Monkey, who foils the witch's plan.

Tripitaka, not realizing that he was duped in the Stone Valley, banishes Monkey for his hostility to seemingly innocent people; then Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy are captured by the nefarious Yellow Giant. Princess Blossom, who is already the Giant's prisoner, gets him to release the pilgrims. // Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy carry a letter from Princess Blossom to her father the king, explaining that the Yellow Giant has captured her and plans to marry her. Pigsy and Sandy return to the Giant's fortress hoping to rescue her, but they aren't strong enough to defeat the Giant.

The Yellow Giant disguises himself as a noble hunter, then tricks the king into having Tripitaka locked up. In desperation, the horse reverts to his original form as a dragon, but he fails to defeat the Giant. Now Pigsy must find Monkey and convince him to save the day. // Pigsy finds Monkey on Fruit-and-Flower Mountain and persuades him to help defeat the Yellow Giant. Monkey goes to the Giant's fortress and frees Princess Blossom and Sandy, then uses guile to defeat the Giant. The four companions are reunited and continue their journey.

Using trickery, the two evil gnomes of Cloudy Peak capture Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy. But Monkey uses a little trickery of his own to steal the gnomes' magic calabash, and sets out to rescue his companions. // Monkey disguises himself as the Bamboo Witch to get into the gnomes' fortress, but they capture him and imprison him in their magic calabash. He uses his quick wits to escape, then defeats the gnomes, who return to their true form as servants of the Sage of the Mountains.

The four pilgrims come to the land of Wu Ji, whose king visits Tripitaka in a dream and says an evil sorcerer has imprisoned him in a well and taken his place on the throne. Tripitaka informs the king's son of his dream, and the prince resolves to rescue his father. // Monkey and Pigsy rescue the true king of Wu Ji from the well. The pilgrims then confront the sorcerer who is posing as the king and reveal that he's an imposter. Monkey defeats him, enabling the grateful king to regain his throne.
