About

Corn Spirits or Geister are an integral part of German myth and culture. What happens when a group of bloodthirsty entities descends on the quiet town of Mittelstadt? At harvest time in autumn 1893, half-Nyx Lora and Wolf help out the local farmers and look forward to the upcoming fair. Yet, pretty blonde Harvest Queens drop dead, and their bodies go missing. Children disappear from the farms and streets as danger prowls in a flowing black cape. Tales of demonic corn spirits are just told to frighten kids, aren't they?Lora and Wolf know better, and it's not long before they leap into fast-paced paranormal adventure and uncover the horrible truth. Help comes from Inspector Reiker, the only human who knows about the existence of the Nyx; ace reporter Kurt Kiefer, whose curiosity leads him astray, and a skinny horse named Wiley. At the same time, a desolate farming community is in dire need, but can only be reached through magic. As they try to move into the mortal world, harvest spirits have all-too-human ambitions. Can Lora, Wolf and their friends take on heinous creatures from the demon realm, save a bunch of doomed kids, and restore a dying town before malevolent magic destroys them all?Content Note: some demonic violence. Sylvia Rose is a multi-disciplinary Canadian author and artist of German heritage. She writes fiction and non-fiction, adventure, science fiction horror, fantasy fiction based on German mythology, quirky Victorian detective thrillers, novels and novellas. She's a big fan of classic sci-fi horror and the theme appears in many of her works. The Lora Ley fantasy fiction books are inspired by German mythology, folklore, history and culture. In Mittelstadt, Victorian era Germany, Nyx halfling Lora Ley discovers her true nature and embarks on dynamic adventures in mortal and spirit realms. Along with her life-mate, friends such as Skoldt the vegan brook horse, Reiker in homicide, Krogg the sewer-dwelling Salamander Goblin and residents of Witchton, Lora encounters Germanic monsters, spirits and demons, revisits heroic tales, travels to the demesnes of gods and goddesses, and occasionally goes shopping at the market. She grows from a self-conscious rebellious girl into a strong warrior woman. The Lora Ley series is a fun fast-paced ride with scenes of violence (battle, grisly deaths, murder), dark humor and innuendo which may not be appropriate for younger age groups.
