by Sylvia Kay Rose
(0)
Born in a workhouse in 19th century Germany, Lora discovers her true nature, visits magic realms and helps save the world from the forces of evil. After a tumultuous youth, Lora is about to be married, when a lover from her past arises to show her miraculous worlds and hidden truths.
As Lora discovers the more about her half-Nyx heritage, a series of grisly deaths and an obsessive police inspector plague her waking hours. Lora meets Skoldt the vegan Norwegian brook horse; the Moss Mother and the Elementals like Ziu the Sky Warrior; the river Wyrm and other spirits and magical entities who help her in her quest to find herself, and to vanquish a growing horror, which threatens both spirits and mortals.
Caught between two men she loves, Lora must make a decision. Marry Marcus and live in the human world, or commit to her true Nyx nature with Wolf. When her fiance's brother falls in love with her, misunderstanding mount and she finds herself caught in a tangle of lies, as the Mittelstadt River slowly turns to toxic sludge. With the reluctant help of salamander goblin Krogg, Lora finds her way to the spirit demesnes where she and Wolf must do battle with the greatest evil of all.
Set in Germany at the end of the 19th century, the story travels from the human town of Mittelstadt to wondrous hidden worlds, demesnes of the Old Gods and the spirit realms. Lora Ley is named after the Loreley rock (Eng. Lorelei) in the majestic Rhine river, which legend says is haunted by an irresistible water nixie, a siren who sings men to their doom. As a halfling nixie, Lora soon discovers the magic or her own songs, for better or worse.
Epic fantasy, mythology, romance and a deadly dash of dark comedy create a fast-paced adventure through time and space.
