Clint Smith Thriller

A disputed election has divided the nation, and a handful of senior government officials have conspired to have the North Koreans assassinate the President of the United States. Believing the assassination attempt to be only days away, Theresa Deer, Director of the Special Section, a small unit whose existence is known by only a few in the U.S. government, is tasked to interdict the man intent on providing the North Koreans vital information about the president's itinerary for his visit to South Korea. While Deer succeeds in her mission, she is severely injured and finds herself being hunted the North Korean assassins. Clint Smith is sent to Korea to help Deer get back to the U.S. and finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the North Koreans. With no one in the U.S. government to turn to for help, and the South Koreans now also looking for them, Clint approaches a wealthy American widow living in Busan for assistance. Not knowing whether she'll help or not, Clint discovers that he has approached the one person in the city who will bring him face to face to the North Koreans and the endgame.

After a successful mission in South America, Clint heads to Las Vegas on vacation and to dig up a stagecoach strong box he had found in the desert earlier but had not opened. Upon inspection, he finds some old gold coins in mint condition and some well-preserved documents. He gives the contents of the strong box to a lawyer to find buyers. One of the documents, unfortunately, creates a maelstrom of violence and murder, and puts Clint squarely in the cross hairs of some Chinese assassins. Clint leaves Las Vegas to keep out of the spotlight, only to find himself going to Alaska in an attempt to rescue a female police officer who had been assigned to protect him in Las Vegas.

The Scientists is the fifth book in the Clint Smith thriller series. Someone has been kidnapping scientists from various countries. All are tops in their field and experts in the modernization of drones. The world's top drone scientist were abducted to create a smaller, faster, long distance, and more lethal drone. As the world's security and intelligence services make little progress in solving the disappearances, Clint is sent to Madrid, Spain and put on alert. While the search is on, three separate drone attacks occur, resulting in a number of deaths. Theresa Deer, Clint's boss, not hindered by bureaucracies, turf battles, or international politics, is determined to identify who is behind the kidnappings and drone attacks. Clint travels to Austria, Italy and finally Greece. In all three countries, he is confronted by those who try to kill him. Once the lethal drones are perfected, the kidnapped scientists' usefulness comes to an end. While Clint's mission does not include rescue, he's given the green light to go after his target. His success may prevent some of them from dying. Time is tight and the enemy is no pushover, so the game is on.
