Rick Perlstein is the author of Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America (Scribner) and Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus (Hill & Wang), which won the Los Angeles Times book prize. Barry M. Goldwater (1909-1998) was a five-term U.S. senator from Arizona whose 1964 campaign for president is credited with reviving American conservatism. Walter Lippmann (1889-1974) was a prominent American essayist and editor. His many books include A Preface to Politics, Public Opinion, A Preface to Morals, and The Good Society. Ronald Steel is professor of international relations and history at the University of Southern California. He is author of Walter Lippman and the American Century. Kevin Phillips is a writer and political commentator. He is the author of fifteen books, including, most recently, 1775, Bad Money, American Theocracy, and American Dynasty. One of the most important and controversial books in modern American politics, The Emerging Republican Majority (1969) explained how Richard Nixon won the White House in 1968-and why the Republicans would go on to dominate presidential politics for the next quarter century. Herbert Croly (1869-1930) was founding editor of the New Republic. Franklin Foer is the editor of the New Republic and the author of How Soccer Explains the World.
